DescriptionOn 30 March 1941, while sailing unescorted off Sierra Leone, the passenger and cargo liner was hit by two torpedoes fired by U-124, sinking her 90 nautical miles (170 km) southwest of Freetown. Her master, 87 crew and 14 passengers were killed. Three survivors were rescued a week later; two more were rescued on 12 April.
