DescriptionOn 17 October 1943 the German commerce raider Michel was torpedoed and sunk by the USS Tarpon while heading to port in Japan. She was hit by three torpedoes and sank with 290 of her crew. 116 survivors reached Japan after a three-day journey in open boats.
