Katori



DescriptionOn 19 February 1944, in Operation Hailstone, the Japanese cruiser sank after being shelled by the battleship USS Iowa. After being under attack for 13 minutes, Katori sank stern first with a port side list at about 40 nautical miles (74 km) northwest of Truk. A large group of survivors was seen in the water after she sank but the Americans did not recover any.
