DescriptionOn 30 December 1942 the British Special Service Vessel (Q-Ship) was torpedoed and sunk by U-435 with the loss of 274 crew, 51 Marines and 44 survivors from Empire Shackleton. The only survivors were the eight crew of the motor torpedo boat, that were detached on anti-submarine patrol, who were later picked up by HMCS Woodstock and two cre of a seaplane that had crashed on take off two days earlier and had been picked up by the HMCS St. Laurent.
