HMS Cressy, HMS Aboukir and HMS Hogue

DescriptionOn 22 September 1914, in the Action of 22 September 1914, three British ships were sunk by SM U-9. After Aboukir was torpedoed it was mistakenly thought that the ship had hit a mine and the remaining ships approached to rescue the crew. Hogue and then Cressy were then torpedoed and sunk. 1,397 men were lost; 837 were rescued.
