Barøy

DescriptionOn 13 September 1941 the Norwegian passenger ship was sunk by British aircraft west of Tranøy Lighthouse. A torpedo blew open her hull, knocked out her electrical power and quickly flooded her. She sank too quickly for her lifeboats to be launched; her passengers and crew could only jump into the icy water. 59 of her 68 Norwegian passengers and 18 of her 26 crew were killed. Of 37 German soldiers aboard, two survived.
